How does sublimation printing work?
The design is printed in reverse with sublimation inks onto transfer paper, then pressed against cut polyester panels at about 200 °C. The heat turns the ink to gas, which bonds with the polyester fibre; when it cools, the colour is part of the fabric rather than a layer on top. Panels are then sewn into the finished garment. Because every panel is printed before sewing, graphics can run edge to edge, across seams and onto collars and cuffs, which is impossible with screen printing after the garment is made.

Which garments can be sublimated?
Anything made of polyester: jerseys and shorts for every sport, reversibles, compression shirts and tights, polos, hoodies in polyester fleece, tracksuits, rash guards and fight shorts, bags, caps and socks. Cotton cannot be sublimated, which is why Gallian's sublimated hoodies use a polyester face with a brushed interior. How to prepare artwork for a sublimated uniform
- Send logos as vector (AI, EPS, SVG, PDF) or PNG at 300 dpi at print size; a crest that will print 4 inches wide needs at least 1200 px.
- Give colours as Pantone or hex; Gallian's mockup shows the nearest print result and a physical colour swatch can be sent for critical brand colours.
- Fine detail below 1 mm and text below 6 pt soften on textured fabrics; the mockup flags these.
- White is the fabric colour, not an ink, so a design that needs white must be on a white-based panel.
